Baur au Lac

The Baur au Lac has the discerning tastes of its guests to thank for the leading position it has maintained for 175 years in the international luxury hotel industry. Its location with its own park and view over Lake Zurich and the Alps is unique. The bank center at Paradeplatz and the famous shopping mile «Bahnhofstrasse» are just a few minutes' walk away.

The hotel offers 119 rooms including 27 Junior Suites and 18 Suites, all in Art Deco style, the opulent Louis XVI or English Regency style combined with contemporary touches and exclusive French, Italian and English fabrics. The legendary hotel hall "Le Hall" shines after elaborate redesign and restoration in a new "retro" shine. The design concept pays homage to the truly legendary hotel lobby and the various stylistic epochs it has lived through. The gastronomy of Baur au Lac is also one of the most exclusive in the city. An excellent cuisine awaits guests in the restaurant "Baur's", which opened in September 2019, as well as in the star restaurant Pavillon, which received the second Michelin star in 2019, was awarded 18 points by Gault Millau and the title of "Ascender of the Year" for chef Laurent Eperon. Last October, Baur au Lac was also voted the best hotel in Switzerland and Europe by the Readers' Choice Award 2018 of the US travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

The Baur au Lac is located in the heart of Zurich in it’s own park by the lake, a few minutes’ walk from the Paradeplatz financial district and the Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s celebrated shopping high street.

Rooms & Suites

The hotel offers 119 rooms ranging from 25 sqm to 100 sqm and including 27 junior suites and 18 suites. Great emphasis was laid on spaciousness, top-quality materials and superior craftsman-ship. The rooms are individually decorated in different styles such as Art Deco, French Louis XVI, and English Regency, combined with contemporary features and the most exclusive French, Italian and English fabrics. All furniture and lighting features are custom-made in France, Belgium, England and Germany. Each item was hand-selected with an unfailing sense of style. While offering the ultimate in comfort, luxury and privacy, the rooms and suites have been equipped with every, yet hardly noticeable technical refinement. The large, luxuriously appointed marble bathrooms with separate shower and toilet, heated floor and daylight match up to the highest demands of comfort, design and equipment.

Restaurant & Bars

Brasserie and Bar "Baur's"

In September 2019 the doors of the new restaurant "Baur's" in the Baur au Lac opened. Baur's embodies the refined reinterpretation of the classic brasserie and offers its guests a new dining experience in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

Baur's main restaurant can seat 66 people and is designed as a casual contemporary brasserie, which mainly celebrates classics of European cuisine using seasonal products of the highest quality. It is framed by unique modern art, a warm palette of colours ranging from rich reds to soft greens, a decorative lacquered ceiling and Murano glass chandeliers. The restaurant is open daily from 12:00-14:30 for lunch and from 18:00-22:30 in the evening. It serves typical brasserie specialities such as sepia linguine with lobster and datterini tomatoes, sole meunière or grilled specialities such as chateaubriand with béarnaise sauce, vegetables and French fries allumettes. Guests can also choose from a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, such as ravioli with leaf spinach, almond ricotta and black truffle, as well as fresh, colourful salads. The Baur's varied wine list was curated by Baur au Lac Chef Sommelier Marc Almert, who was recently named World Sommelier Champion. The outstanding wines are sourced from Baur au Lac Vins, the hotel's premium wine retailer, which maintains close and exclusive relationships with wineries and producers worldwide.

Dining Counter

The Dining Counter in the centre of Baur's is a great place to linger and watch the hustle and bustle. Cold dishes, such as organic salmon smoked on cherry wood, the classic beef tartare, fine raw ham and an exquisite selection of cheese as well as light house salads, are prepared right in front of the guests.

Cigar Lounge

The quiet and cosy Cigar Lounge of the Baur's is located in a Séparée. Equipped with a state-of-the-art humidor, the Fumoir offers guests a fine selection of over 20 cigars, including an "1844" special series, as a tribute to the year Baur au Lac was founded. Port wines, single malts, fine cognacs and other high-quality spirits complete the cigar enjoyment.

The warm atmosphere of the lounge bar, in which antique-looking mirrors form a beautiful contrast to the fabric-covered walls and the dark wooden floor, offers the perfect setting for the internationally inspired "Aperitivo Cocktail" concept, which brings together influences from Greece, Scotland, South Africa and Switzerland in elegant creations. The Baur's Bar, which has the potential to become the new after-work hotspot for Zurich residents, offers a menu offering a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic specialities every day from 3 p.m. until midnight. In addition to the aperitif specialities, which are sorted according to destination, the perfect highballs with specially made ice cubes are also highly recommended.

Designed by star architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, the Pavillon gourmet restaurant, one of Zurich's most popular restaurants and the culinary heart of the Baur au Lac, is open all year round. Almost completely glazed, the magnificent five-metre-high Rotonde with its filigree stucco work and the Lalique chandelier from the 1920s, spectacular even for connoisseurs, in particular, incorporate nature into the grandiose design concept at all times of the year. The kitchen of chef Laurent Eperon was recently awarded the second Michelin star and Gault Millau awarded it 18 points. His style is characterised by concentration on the essentials. "Contemporary Fine Dining" is his light, open interpretation of classic haute cuisine. Extravagant creations or even controversial ingredients stay away from his cuisine. His line is clear and harmonious. Without frills, he uses only high-quality and predominantly seasonal ingredients and emphasises their natural flavours. In this way he differs significantly from trend kitchens and fashionable appearances.

Baur au Lac Terrasse

The Baur au Lac Terrace, Zurich's most exclusive place to spend hot summer days and cosy evenings, rounds off the culinary offerings of the Baur au Lac.. Refreshing cocktails and ice-cold champagne for aperitifs lure you to one of the trendy lounges. Small snacks or light main courses are served by an attentive team from morning till night, in an atmosphere of cosmopolitan grandeur and extravagance. The terrace is open Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 23.00 o'clock.

Meetings & Events

The Baur au Lac has seven conference rooms that can accommodate up to 400 people. All rooms have the latest technological standards and are equipped with WLAN. Outstanding designers have put a new face on these hallowed halls – a face of unsurpassed style and elegance. An experienced team places cutting-edge equipment at your disposal. Superlative cuisine joins with the Baur au Lac’s proverbial service to ensure that events great and small make the same lasting impact.
